Bereaved Carers Report 2023

Healthwatch Leeds worked with Leeds Palliative Care Network to find out about people’s experiences of end-of-life care for their relative or friend in a hospital, community (including GP surgeries, Leeds Community Healthcare and private care agencies and care homes) and hospice settings over a period three months, February to April 2023.

Highlights

75% of people were satisfied or very satisfied with the way services worked together during the last weeks and months of their friend or relative’s life. This is an increase from 65% last year.

Recommendations include: Refresh awareness for all staff regarding the importance of utilising the SUPPORT Campaign for families and friends, embed TALK campaign across clinical areas, hospices to continue with a person-centred approach and effective communication with families regarding their loved ones wishes.
