Mental Health Crisis in Leeds
This work was carried out between January and March 2019 to find out what it is like to have a mental health crisis in Leeds. We wanted to find out if people knew where to go for help and support and how that support was once they had accessed it.
Mental health crisis in Leeds report
We received 697 responses to our survey and some of the key messages were; many people did not know where to go for help and support, there were significant variations in the support people received and people told us that being listened to and having someone to talk to were the most important things for them during a crisis.

Following on from our report about mental health crisis in Leeds we asked service providers to tell what they planned to do to address the concerns that had been raised. We requested action plans from those that provide services and support in Leeds, highlighting the actions they plan to take and when and how they hope to carry these out. We will follow up on these and continue to work with those that provide and commission services to ensure that the recommendations made in our report are acted upon and support for people in crisis in Leeds improves.
What people told us about mental health crisis in Leeds
These comments give a flavour of what people told us. Some comments relate to crisis services whilst others relate to ongoing mental health support and mainstream services. We received so many comments about services and the issues that people encountered, we wanted to share some of this as well. We have also shared people’s comments about why they did not seek support when they had a mental health crisis.
